Bhubaneswar: After amid protest, the State Government has finally decided to suspend controversial SP, Satish Gajbhiye. The Naveen Patnaik government has to bow down to the demands of the High Court Bar Association, opposition parties especially BJP and public rage on Police brutality.
The series of events started when police brutality issue was raised on the IPS officer while handling an Anti Sarathi Baba Protest. The issue escalated as there were a lawyer and a BJP leader and reportedly they had to face police brutality. The High Court Bar Association demanded the immediate suspension of the IPS officer and setting up a high level enquiry. The BJP has been supporting the cause for Bar Association. The situation got escalated as the protesters threaten to boycott the Independence Day celebrations on August 15th. They also demanded the immediate arrest of SP Satish Gajbhiye.
According to the reports, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked R P Koche to submit a detailed report on the entire issue. The Inspector General, R P Koche, reportedly submitted the document to the government on the allegations of the Police brutality. Government understanding the complexity and the sensitivity of the issue took an immediate action and suspended IPS Satish Gajbhiye. The action has been taken as per All India Services Conduct Rule and Insensitive Behavior towards the mass or public.
Earlier when the TV Channels started showing the video of the Police brutality on protesters and public, Satish Gajbhiye was removed and transferred to Police Headquarters in Cuttack. He along with the police force was seen thrashing the protesters and ransacking the vehicles. Nitinjeet Singh later replaced him and he was transferred without any duty. The officials tried to defend the case against their colleague but could save him from the wrath of the high level enquiry. The fate of the IPS officer and Government actions are yet to be seen but as of now the suspension will bring the situation under control in Kendrapara and adjoining areas.
