New Delhi: The Nabakalebar Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha was marred by an unfortunate incident of a stampede. The incident took place on 18th July and resulted in loss of lives, which was deeply mourned by President Pranab Mukherjee, who gave his condolences to the families.
He conveyed his message to the state Governor Dr S. C. Jamir, saying, “I am deeply saddened to learn that the Nabakalebar Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri, has been affected by a stampede and some people have died, while others have been gravely injured. I call upon the Government of Odisha as well as other agencies, to support the bereaved families by providing them all possible aid. Also, the injured people should be provided medical assistance. I am sure the Government and other agencies are ensuring law and order situation at the yatra by taking the appropriate measures. Also, peaceful participation of the devotees in the Rath Yatra and darshan of Lord Jagannath is being taken care of. Please convey my deepest condolences to the affected families and also, the wishes of a speedy recovery to the injured.”
